Life Imitating Art

 Hello! Today I am playing with  the Creative Confetti Challenge Life Imitating Art to be inspired by a work of fine art.  I chose an art print by Georgia O'Keefe called The White Calico Flower for my inspiration (shown below).  I created my design by using Power Poppy digital images Ultimate Poppy (no lines version) and Juicy Straw Berries (just the leaves ).  Using Photoshop Elements I manipulated the images and printed portions of the images  against a background of green leaves on white card stock and trimmed to fit on a mat of black card stock and then attached to a white card base. I added more gray color to the flower with Copic Markers.   The end result closely copied the art work in layout and colors. I finished by attaching a plastic Happy Birthday sticker from my stash.  This does not show very well in the photo because of the glare.

I made a second card using the same design but printed it in a lighter tone...do not like it as well as the first try. I again used Gray Copic Markers to add more color. I inked the edges of the image with Black Copic after trimming and simply attached to the white card base. I used a rub on sticker Thank You to finish. So I have 2 cards to add to my stash.  And used up some of my Sticker Stash.

Happy Travels

Hello!  I am back as promised with another unused digital image from my files.  This one is by From The Hearts called  Happy Travels.  I am glad to have these lovely digital images in my files as this artist is no longer with us.  I printed the image and sentiment in black ink on Cream Cardstock and colored with Black, Brown, and Cream Copics.  I created the brick background ( inspired by the photo) using my Scor-pal and sponging with DOI Vintage Photo. The brown ink took on a  orangey cast on the cream CS? Added a die cut tag from the cream CS embellished with  stickers and a bit of string. Attached the image to a black card base to finish.   Guess the style of the card leans more to clean and layered even though I gave the luggage a vintage look.

Ready for a Trip

Welcome to a rainy day in the studio!  A couple of challenges brought to mind some digital images that I have never used.  This card uses one of them -the Tiddly Inks image of Suitcases which was a freebie.  I thought it would be perfect for the ModSquad challenge to use only 3 colors black, brown, and cream plus a tag.  All suitcases need some type of tag and most are brown or black??  I printed the image on a cream card stock with black ink of course. I colored the images with Brown and Black Copics and sponged the edges with DOI Antique Oxide and Vintage Photo.  This gave an antique look to the stack of luggage. Added some texture with Glossy Accents to the corners and latches. I die cut a couple of tags in the cream CS and added some stickers from Imaginations (in my stash).  Attached the tags with a Brown Brad.  Also added a sticker to the side of the locker.  Finished with a mat of brown and card base of black, both card stocks from GKD. I would call this Clean and Simple style. 

I'll be back later with another image that I remembered in my digital files.

Clean and Simple 2 Ways

Hello!  I have two cards inspired by the sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch challenge.   For both I used a vine stamp from Mixed Media Stamps but used different green inks for each. The first one is a one layer card using Memento Bamboo Leaves ink.  I finished this one with glittery pink and gold heart stickers and a banner  die cut from GKD Grass Green CS with a GKD sentiment stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with White EP.

The second card was stamped with DOI Peeled Paint for the vine and DOI Faded Lipstick for the GKD sentiment.  I added punched pink flowers from my stash and a die cut with the sentiment. Attached to a card base of GKD Fresh Asparagus CS.

Cheers! Have a Martini!

Hello!  Playing again with some challenges and using old stash.  Found some fun stickers of Martinis and Olives.  Thought this would make a great card for my DH since he likes an occasional Martini with Olives....stirred.  I took a Copper Metallic CS by DCWV and added the stickers and heat embossed some stamps (Repeat Impressions Cheers and MFP Birthday) with Black EP.  Added the white card base.  Cheers to All!

Silk Flowers

Hello! Another card with a flower but this time I used some silk ones from my stash.  Colored some white ones with DOI  inks and layered smaller orange ones to create one big Blossom.  Added some leaves that I stamped and cut with Gina K stamp and die.  I found a panel of some digital paper with script that I had printed and stashed away.  I distressed the paper with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo DOI and placed on a card base of Fresh Asparagus CS.  "Arranged" the flower and leaves and added a Birthday sentiment sticker of clear epoxy from Cloud 9....another find in my stash.

Life's an Adventure

Hello!  Playing with some old pattern paper and some other items from my stash to create this card with a Travel theme.  The pattern paper by Teresa Collins was a great place to start and I added some stickers from Creative Imagination and a sentiment from my stash of stamps.  I stamped the words on a scrap of tan CS with Memento Tuxedo black ink and inked the edge with black. Added a Brad Camera that I have had (hoarded) for years waiting for the right card to use. Used a Kraft card base and a Black mat to assemble the card.  Like the collage look of the finished card.

Seashells and Sand

 

Hello! This post is a quick and easy card made with Gina K Sand CS, Gina K sentiment and speckle stamps from Gifts from the Sea set, and some stickers from EK Success Sea Shells and Sand assortment.  I have had these stickers for several years and thought of them when I saw this week's  recipe challenge at Less is More to use stickers, sticky labels or peel-offs on your cards.  I used Memento Rich Cocoa ink for the sentiment and sand speckles stamped on the card.  I like the colors and glitter(does not show very well on the photo) on the stickers.

Traveling by Camper

Hello!  Today this card was inspired by Challenge 24 at Retro Rubber which has a Travel Theme.  When I saw the graphic, I thought of a Flourishes stamp set "S'more Fun"  that I won a couple years ago and never used.  I know it is old because I won it shortly before Flourishes went out of business.....I so love their stamps.
 Anyhoo, back to my card...I stamped the Camper with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored the image with a bunch of Copics and Memento Markers and even added some Glossy Accents to the windows and pots. After cutting the image with a circle die and then a rectangle die which I did not like, I freehand cut the image and placed on Navy CS and then on to some leftover scrapbook paper of a map.  Finished with some old Creative Imagination stickers from stash and attached to Navy card base.

A fun card ...maybe to send to someone leaving on a trip or even retiring.

My DH asked what state was the map for and I had no idea. It appears it might actually be part of Ohio not far from our home.

I have never traveled or stayed in a camper and do not have any desire to do so.  My idea of camping out is a motel with all the amenities of home.

Have a Cup of Java

Hello!  Yes, I have another CAS card ...this one is for CAS-ology cue card challenge JAVA.  I found this pattern paper and sticker from Crate Paper collection DIY Shop.  I thought the paper represented a morning sunrise and I must always have my coffee early in the morning.  I assembled the paper and label on a Red card base and added the cup of coffee using a GKD stamp that I paper pieced with red CS and stamped "Coffee" with MFP's Oh, Beans stamp in Memento Rich Cocoa.  That's all, folks.

Summer Time Drive

Hello!  The  Designer’s Choice Challenge 521 at the House that Stamps Built hosted by Deonna is   to create cards with a monochromatic color scheme.  For my blackish card, I have chosen the Repeat Impression stamp of a Corvette that I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink on white cardstock and trimmed with Nesties Oval die and placed on a Black Scallop Oval mat cut with Nesties Die. This was attached to Black and White Pattern Paper from Fancy Pants which I embossed with Cuttlebug EF Tiny Bubbles. Added a Black and White Stitched Ribbon and rub-on stickers from stash before placing on black card base.

Road Trip

Second Post :
I am still playing with travel theme cards....maybe thinking of all the traveling done over Memorial Day weekend.  I recently received Doodle Pantry Classic Cars 2 digital images and could not wait to use the Ford Ragtop Image.  I printed and fussy cut the red car and used with some old  Paper Pizazz road map paper.  I used orange Core-dinations canvas texture as card base layered with a red textured card stock, then the pattern paper that I embossed with Cuttlebug EF Tiny Bubbles. I lined the road with a narrow Satin Orange ribbon and added the car with pop up foam. Finished with a sticker from Creative Imaginations.  Thought this came out rather colorful.

Almost Stumped by Stencil Challenge

One of my favorite weekly challenges  is Joan's Touch challenge and this week it was a very challenging one for me.  We were to
-use a stencil (Option was to use shadow technique)
-combine 2 Patterns of Papers
-make a card, a book, a note.....
-use a product sold at Joan's Gardens

The difficult part was to use a stencil...I only own 3 stencils which were bought at garage sales.  Finally I came up with a plan to make a card for  Joan's Touch Challenge using a Birthday Cake brass stencil (50 cents at the garage sale) with papers from Heartfelt Creations Classic Editions Collection purchased at Joan's Gardens.  I laid the stencil on a panel cut from the collection and colored in the stencil with markers and gold metallic pen.  I did not try the shadow technique. Using a double sided  pattern paper for the card base, I attached the image with a mat and a strip of another pattern  to the front of the card.  I used a clear epoxy sticker from Cloud Designs to create a Birthday Card.   I finished the inside with another panel stamped with a verse from Creative Vision Stamps using Memento Rich Cocoa ink.  The pattern paper shows up really well in the bottom photo of the inside of the card.

Triple Layer Card

Second post today:
It has been awhile since I made a triple time stamped card which is so dramatic and easy to do.  It happens that the challenge for Mod Squad Blog is to do some triple stamping so I took the challenge.  I used Black and White cardstocks for my layers and GKD stamps from  Year of Flowers (Sunflower) and Pressed Flowers (leaves).  The flowers were stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder and then colored with Pencils. I stamped 2 sizes of leaves with Memento Pistachio ink. I added a clear epoxy sticker from Cloud Designs so as not to cover the design.  I could have stamped on clear acrylic with the same result but I wanted to use up these stickers that have been in my stash for some time.

Up, Up and Away

Hello!  I recently won some stamps from The House That Stamps Built including this Repeat Impressions Hot Air Balloon Cluster.   I used this stamp with some new pattern papers that I had purchased which had a paper design with hot air balloons.  I stamped the balloons with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a blue cardstock from stash that I embossed with clouds using a Darice embossing folder. I colored the clouds with a white pencil.  I then paper pieced the balloons with 3 different pattern papers. Following the sketch shown on the left from The House That Stamps Built challenge I built my card  with more of the pattern papers from Fancy Pants Designs Wonderful Day and Happy Go Lucky pads.  I added a clear epoxy sticker Celebrate Today from Clouds Designs.

Typing My Thanks

A few weeks ago,  I won the DIY Shop Collection by Crate Paper.  It is so easy to create cards using the great papers, diecuts, stickers and other embellies from this collection.  Today I have a card made with a die cut of a Vintage typewriter paired with letter stickers and pattern paper. Added a button with twine from my stash to finish. Cut a window from the pattern paper with a square Nestie and popped up the cut out in the center on an inset of ivory cs with pop up foam.
I used a sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch for my layout.

Guess Who This Baby Is?

Morning! I have a fun card to share today.  This week the challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow is BABY FACE and they want us to make vintage or shabby chic baby cards .  I searched the web for vintage baby pictures to use and found several great ones.  But when I told my DH what I was searching for, he said why not used the baby picture on our dresser?  Duh! Why did I not think of that picture.....it is surely vintage enough. (Sorry, DH).  The baby boy is my DH and he remembers having the picture made and the little dog that he is holding.  He was not a happy little guy about posing and was fussing and crying. The photographer gave him the dog to hold and that calmed him down enough to sit still and smile for this adorable photograph. This was a little moment in his life but a treasured memory.

Back to my card.....after scanning the picture and printing on card stock, I trimmed the picture with an oval die and aged the image a bit more with Distress Ink Antique Linen.  I assembled the card with a sand color card base and pattern papers background  that I distressed with ink and distress tool.  I placed the image on a scallop oval mat and added  punched bears, buttons, ribbons, duck embellishment and stickers. The baby theme papers, stickers, and embellishments were found in some  leftover stash from scrap booking days.  Everything used in this card was from my collection of supplies.

I made this card using a bird sticker from My Mind's Eye pack and sentiments from a Sticker Pack from Karen Foster.  I looked every where for some stickers I have from SRM stickers but  could not find...I decided  to do this or miss the deadline.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

 The challenge at Cards for Men is A Sports Theme. I recently acquired this "Fall Ball Teddy" image from Meljen's Designs and decided to color him with Copics in Cleveland Browns colors...my DH is a Browns fan.
I used the Sketch from Critters Sketch Challenge...maybe because of the orange color?
I placed the image on a Brown CS mat and then on a base of Orange CS. Just had to use those colors. Added some Nikki Sivils Pattern Paper strips and used a "Sticker with Attitude" to go with the sports theme. Finished with sentiment stamp from Annabelle Stamps and glossy accents on the helment and football. This will be for my DH's birthday coming up this week.
