Hello to You

Welcome to the studio!  Sharing a card that I created with supplies from Gina K Designs and Cuttlebug embossing folders.  I started this design by cutting a smallcircle from a patterned paper from Watercolor Floral pad and set aside the circle. I trimmed the paper with rectangle stitched die from GKD (master layout 2) and embossed the panel with Cuttlebug Victoria EF. I attached this to a white mat embossed with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots EF. I assembled the center embellishment with a strip of Faded Brick CS cut with GKD Flag die, the small circle of the patterned paper layered with a circle of Vellum, and a scalloped circle frame on top. I stamped the Vellum circle with a GKD sentiment from Rose Bouquet set using Versamark and Gold EP.  Finished with a card base of GKD Faded Brick CS. My inspiration for this design was the challenge at Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Summer Birthday Wishes

Hello! Today I am sharing a card that I made using a GKD Stencil that was inspired by a GKD video called  5 Minute Card Easy Stenciled Mini Slimline Card.  I used the same stencil but changed it up by making a A2 card instead of a slimline card. I used the stencil, a stamp, and inks from the GKD Watercolor Spring Card Kit. My card base is GKD Innocent Pink CS and the Green mat is from my paper stash.

Using Some of My Stash

 Welcome to the studio!  I have created some cards using some pre-embossed panels of white cardstock that I had filed away.....not sure why I did this but I have a stack of several panels embossed with several different embossing folders.  I chose 3 precut and pre-embossed panels with Cuttlebug Leafy Branch EF. For the first card, I colored the raised design with DOI  Peeled Paint using a pod and attached to a Green Mat and White Card base. I added several Butterflies die cut from scraps of Yellow CS using Sue Wilson Petite Butterflies dies (NBUS). Finished with words die cut with Cheery Lynn dies. 

 

The second card was made in a similar way but used a different green ink and darker green mat. The butterflies are cut from the smaller dies from the same set by Sue Wilson and cut from scraps of a patterned paper shown on the side in the photo. Used a Cheery Lynn die for the word Thanks. 

For the third card, I had used the Leafy Branch EF but also had embossed the panel with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots.  Not sure which EF that I used first but I had colored the raised dots with Navy Ink and the branch with Green Ink using pods to color the raised areas.  It was some time ago that I did this embossing and coloring and put away to finish at a later time.  I completed this card using some Marianne Design Creatable dies.  The bird was cut from a Red scrap and raised on some red foam. The birdhouse was cut from some Brown foam and I inked the raised area with dark brown ink. (FYI I first cut the house from brown cardstock and cut the foam to layer but I liked the look of the foam for the house with out the paper better and eliminated the brown paper.)  The sentiment was stamped and die cut with Gina K Designs products.  Used Navy ink to stamp and white foam to raise. Attached the panel to a Navy Card base and assembled the elements using a bit of string to hang the birdhouse.

Sweet Treats for My Love

Welcome!  I was not going to make another Valentine Theme card but when I started playing with the sketch from Tuesday Morning Challenge, I ended up making another one.  I embossed a mat of Pink CS with Cuttlebug Victoria EF to begin my design. I stamped a Power Poppy image with Memento Black ink on White CS and colored with Copics and added some icing to the sweet treats using Pink Stickles. That really sweeten up the treats. I trimmed the image following the sketch and added a layer of Polka Dot Patterned Paper to create a frame of dots. I also embossed this layer another Cuttlebug EF. Stamped a Gina K stamp on scrap of Pink CS and die cut with Spellbinders Label die. Assembled the elements on a White Card Base and added a couple Shiny Red Nail Heads for some bling.

Snowy Scenes

Welcome to my studio! Today I am posting 2 Christmas cards that I made using Patterned Papers from a Heartfelt Creations paper pack. I used a Darice Snowflakes Embossing Folder and a Gina K Designs Christmas sentiment on both cards. I use Stickles to give some shiny effects on the smoke, windows and snowy trees but that does not show in the photos. Trust me, it looks really good up close and in person.  I actually made 2 of each design so that's another 4 for my Christmas Card Stash.

Other supplies: White Cardstock bases, Red and Green Cardstock for mats, Memento Rhubarb Stalk Ink, and Simply Cards & Papercraft Embossing Folder (on green mat).

Playing With Gina K Inks and Water

Hello! Second post today....something other than Christmas cards.

Today I have been playing with the Monthly Mix Challenge at Gina K designs. The challenge is to use Gina K Inks with water to create a card. I inked a panel of white GKD Cardstock with GKD ink Barely There and spritzed with water, but I did not get the effect that I wanted.....think the ink was too light to show. I stamped the panel with a GKD stamp from Thank You Friend set with GKD Black ink. Using a water brush and GKD Fresh Asparagus ink, I water colored the leaves and stems of the image. I die cut the image with an oval die and layered on to a die cut layer of GKD Grass Green cardstock. I finished by using a card base of Coral CS layered with the leftover panel and the layered image. I will add a sentiment when I use the card.

Beautiful Days

Hello! We have been having some beautiful sunny days here in Ohio.  That made me think of the verse that I used in creating this card for the Double D Challenge Book Covers. I stamped the verse from Repeat Impressions in the center of my panel and framed it with Lilies that I stamped with a Gina K Design stamp in Memento Black ink and colored with Copics. The layout was inspired by the book titles that were all centered and surrounded by images. The lilies in the upper book cover inspired my choice of flowers.  I originally was going to color my lilies orange but strayed off to pink. I used dark navy cardstock as my base. 

If my card was the cover of a book, wouldn't it be fun to read about beautiful days and happy tomorrows?

Beautiful Butterfly

Hello! I was trying to decide on a card design to make for the current challenge at Modsquad Challenges which is Beautiful Butterflies - to include a BUTTERFLY on the front of your card. I was trying to decide whether to create a background using some fancy technique, do some ink blending, use some dies, add a lot of embellishments, etc and then it struck me ......just focus on a beautiful butterfly and let it be the star on the card. I simply used an older Gina K Stamp from the Hope is Faith set and stamped it on a paper that was preprinted with a frame (in my stash from Gina K) using Memento Black ink.  I colored the image with Memento Markers and a Sakura Blue Gelly pen. I checked the image of a Swallowtail Butterfly to make sure my coloring was close to nature.  I attached the image to a  card base of Gina K Wild Dandelion. I am pleased that I decided to focus on the butterfly.

Recycling Catalog Photos for Cards

Hello! I have not been blogging much in the past 2 months but hope to get back in the routine of posting and visiting other blogs this month.  I have started the year by trying to use up some of my stash and saved items to clean up my studio. I will share more of those projects later.  I am always seeing useful items for cards in all paper goods including magazines, advertising, catalogs, napkins, cards etc. that I receive.  

Today I am sharing several cards that I made for a package that I will be mailing to a Life Care Center.  Since I was looking for some ideas for quick and easy Easter cards to create for the nursing home, I was inspired to use photos of flowers from a plant catalog ( I seem to receive one almost weekly).  As I was about to throw the latest envelope with ads away, I thought how the photos would make lovely cards using some colorful card bases and simple sentiments.  For the card bases I used Yellow, Pink, and Green textured cardstock from Bazzill that I found at Tuesday Morning.  I trimmed the photos and attached to the card bases and then added  Easter sentiments that I stamped with some  Hero Arts and  Gina K stamps. Used Black Versafine ink for stamping. The photos shown include about 31 of the 45 cards that I have made.  I printed a verse for inside the cards on white cardstock and attached to the inside.

I thought this was a productive way to use something rather than just add to the trash. I hope the cards make someone smile and feel that they are remembered at Easter.

Butterflies Fly Again

Hello! Sometimes I am immediately inspired by a challenge and know at once what I am going to create but other times, it takes awhile to come up with an idea.  I knew at once what I was going to use for the Just Us Girls Photo Inspiration shown below.   It might not be acceptable but I knew that I wanted to recycle some butterflies that were on a card that I had received some time ago.  I carefully removed two  die cut butterflies that were already enhanced with glitter and gemstones and set aside while I created a card for them.  I printed a digital image of orchids (inspired by the JUGS challenge graphic) that I had from Beccy's Place on Ivory Cardstock and colored with Copics and Pencils and stamped a birthday sentiment from Gina K Designs. I attached the image on a card base of the same Ivory CS and adhered the saved butterflies. I drew on the antennas with a black marker.  I am pleased with the results and happy to have found a use for the beautiful butterflies.

Christmas Wishes

Welcome!  Playing with a Gina K Design stamp to create a card for the ModSquad challenge to have the sentiment take center stage.  I found the pattern paper in my scraps (not sure of source) and stamped the sentiment from Merry & Bright set with Distress Ink Barn Door.  Embossed with Clear EP.  Also did some embossing on the background with Cuttlebug Allegro EF. Edged the panel with Pilot Metallic Gold Pen. Attached to card base of  GKD Red CS.

Thank You with Poppies

Hello! I have another CAS card today!  I am  playing with some challenges to use only one third of the space of a card.  I die cut a white panel with Memory Box Darling Poppies and then also cut from Green CS and twice from a 2 sided patterned paper from First Edition Blank Canvas pad.  I attached the cut panel to a card base of the Floral Patterned paper and then filled in with the solid and print flower.  Stamped the sentiment from GKD stamps with Memento green ink. Clean and easy!

(To determine if I use only one third of the space,  I cut a piece of paper 5.5" x 4.25" and fold into a third of that and hold over my card either vertically or horizontally to plan my design.)

Butterfly with Stencil

Hello!    I used My Favorite Things Radiating Rays stencil with Memento Summer Sky ink and DOI Tumbled Glass to create a panel that I trimmed with a square die and cut the center out with a circle die.  I attached that using foam pad to Shimmery Yellow Card Base and added a fussy cut butterfly that was in my stash of leftovers.  (Stamped the butterfly with Black Ink and colored with Copics. ) Finished with a GKD sentiment. 

When I showed this to my DH, he thought it needed more so I added a frame of Blue CS to the second version shown below.  I'll let you be the judge to which one you like.

Fusion of Sketch with Butterflies

Today I am playing with the challenge at Fusion's  5th Anniversary Challenge shown below.  We can choose to use the sketch or photo or a fusion of both.  My card was inspired by both.  I used 3 Butterflies (found in my stash of leftovers) that were die cut with Cheery Lynn dies from Navy CS and cut angel wings of Glitter CS from my scraps. I started with a Ivory card base and attached a panel found in my stash of handmade backgrounds that was made by blending assorted  Distress Oxide Inks and spraying Gold Shimmer Mist.  I added some die cut circles of navy and ivory with die cut shapes of navy and Glitter Paper following the sketch and then attached the Butterflies.   I like it when I use up some of my scraps and leftover die cuts and inked backgrounds. The sentiment from Gina K Designs was stamped with Memento Paris Dusk ink.

Glittery Cupcake

Hello!  Today I am sharing a card made using a stencil from Gina K Designs to sponge DOI Picked Raspberry on a strip of white CS that I fussy cut and layered on to a die cut rectangle of Glitter paper with a layer of Pink attached to a white layer with a pink card base.  Used Clear Star pink on the swirl for some shine.  I finished by adding a pre-cut 3D die cut Cupcake from Valentine Crafts and stamped a sentiment with the same ink. Followed the sketch below. The cupcake was actually recycled from an older card that I had made but never sent.

Winter Cards

 Sharing a couple of Winter / Holiday cards that I made with foil accented cardstock from my stash and used with Blue CS and Silver Metallic CS.  The top card was finished with a precut and stamped topper and holly leaves cut with a GKD die.  The second card uses die cuts and stamp  from GKD sets.
