Birthday Butterfly

Welcome to the studio!  I have been fluttering around my desk putting together another birthday card.  This is one of my favorite kind of cards to make since there is always a birthday to celebrate and it's good to have cards on hand.   I have a box of old photos - ones that I saved from the trash -remember before digital cameras when we had to have film developed and a lot of them never made it to a photo album or were not good enough to frame.  I kept some of those rejects thinking that I could find ways to repurpose someday.  I have used 2 of those rejected photos (shown below) in the making of this card. You can estimate how many years I have had them.  

Using a recently learned Cloisonne Technique, I stamped an old butterfly stamp from Layers of Color with Versamark ink on the sunset glossy photo and heat embossed with gold EP and fussy cut the image. (Be careful not to get paper too hot or it will blister.) I trimmed the second photo of flowers and used it as a background mat on my card.  I attached the butterfly and added with some die cut words cut with Cheery Lynn dies.  I wanted the gold edge of the card base and the gold of the words all to match the gold on the butterfly so I used the same gold embossing powder to edge the white card base and to create a gold embossed strip to cut the words.  That's what I call coordinating my golds.

As You See It Challenge: #268 Techniques. A favorite technique of mine is Cloisonne Technique using heat embossing. This is a new technique that I recently learned.

Sending Birthday Wishes

Welcome to my studio!  Did you know that in some cultures, dragonflies represent good luck or prosperity? So, make a wish when you see a dragonfly and it'll come true.  And some say butterflies are omens of good luck.  If I send a card with both a dragonfly and a butterfly, would my card be doubly full of good luck for birthday wishes to come true?  That thought inspired my design for this card  made for a new challenge that I just found, and it intrigued me....

Paper Dragonfly Creative Challenge #2 2022 is anything flies (meaning anything goes) using only the colors Pink and Black.  

Details of card: Stamped Power Poppy Dahlia XL on white CS and colored with Copics.  Placed the image on a Black Mat and then on to White Card Base.  Stamped and double heat embossed Power Poppy sentiment to send Happy Wishes. I selected this particular stamp because "wishes" look like it was written by a butterfly in flight, does it not?

I finished the card by adding the butterfly cut with a Cheery Lynn Die and lined with Pink Vellum. The dragonfly was stamped on Pink Vellum using Versamark ink with a Creative Dies stamp and heat embossed with Black EP and then cut with a die also from Creative Dies. I wanted the dragonfly to have that iridescent and transparent look of a real one.

Seize the Birthday:   #231 Sparkle and Shine. The dragonfly does have some sparkle and shine but hard to see so I'll go with Anything Goes for a Birthday.

Beautiful Butterfly

Hello! I was trying to decide on a card design to make for the current challenge at Modsquad Challenges which is Beautiful Butterflies - to include a BUTTERFLY on the front of your card. I was trying to decide whether to create a background using some fancy technique, do some ink blending, use some dies, add a lot of embellishments, etc and then it struck me ......just focus on a beautiful butterfly and let it be the star on the card. I simply used an older Gina K Stamp from the Hope is Faith set and stamped it on a paper that was preprinted with a frame (in my stash from Gina K) using Memento Black ink.  I colored the image with Memento Markers and a Sakura Blue Gelly pen. I checked the image of a Swallowtail Butterfly to make sure my coloring was close to nature.  I attached the image to a  card base of Gina K Wild Dandelion. I am pleased that I decided to focus on the butterfly.

Just Fluttering By

Hello! I have second card featuring a butterfly for the Double D Challenge to use Butterflies.  For this design I used a die cut butterfly cut from Black and Yellow card stocks using Exotic Butterfly and Angel Wing dies from Cheery Lynn.  I did some shading on the yellow layer before gluing the 2 die cuts together.  For the background, I inked an old Hero Arts Stamp ( One of my first Hero Arts stamps from 2009) called Red Fushia with Memento Markers Bamboo Leaves and Lilac Posie, spritzed with some water, and stamped on a white card stock panel. It's been a while since I used this technique.  I stamped the sentiment with Memento Lilac Posie ink. Popped up the butterfly on the design and attached to a textured card base to finish.

Coneflowers and Butterfly

Hello! I have been playing with Repeat Impressions stamp Daisies and Butterfly to make a card for  the Palette Inspiration Challenge S1819 at The House That Stamps Built.  (see Below)  Two of the Design Team made cards with the same stamp...it is perfect for this challenge so I also used.  I stamped the image on white card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copics using all the colors of the palette.  I trimmed the image and attached to a background paper that I embossed with Divine Swirls EF.  I sanded the raised surface to distress it a little. Added the purple card base to finish.  I stamped part of a Repeat Impressions sentiment to make this a card for a birthday.

Butterfly and Zinnias

Hi Friends!  This card is for the Creative Confetti Challenge-Make It With Metal. I used stamps from Power Poppy set Vibrant Thanks.  I stamped the zinnias, one of my favorite summer flowers, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Copics and used a Gelly Pen in the centers. Stamped the sentiment with Distress Oxide Ink Fired Brick. Used GKD Yellow and Grass Green cardstocks for the layers of my design.  Since butterflies are always flying around my zinnias, I added a metal butterfly charm (from my stash) for the metal element on the card.

Inky Paper Towel Returns for More Cards

Hello! I appreciate your stopping by!  I have been playing again with Paper Towels, a new technique for me.   I have been inspired by Loll's challenge at CAS Mix Up challenge to use/recycle inky paper towels.   The butterfly was cut with a Cheery Lynn die from some card stock that I transferred ink to from a inky paper towel that I also used on another card.  A section of the actual inky paper towel was cut and layered beneath a white card stock panel with an opening die cut with a Spellbinders circle die. The colors on the towel are Distress Oxide inks  Fired Brick, Fossilized Amber, and Squeezed Lemonade.  I attached the butterfly and  added some die cut flowers from yellow CS ( used Spellbinders Shapeabilities Flower Bundle) to the white panel. Then I stamped a Papers and Such sentiment with Fired Brick ink.  Attached all to a White Card Base.

Sharing one more card made with transferring color from Inky Paper Towel.  Used circle stencil with panel of White CS to create circle of color. (Distress Oxide Inks).  Added die cut of a flower cut with Spellbinders Shapeabilities Flower Bundle.  Sentiment from Penny Black Friendship set stamped with SU ink. . Card base of Green CS from stash.

Fluttering By

Welcome!  Playing again with transferring colors from an inky paper towel.  I think the colors on the towel are DOI Fired Brick, Fossilized Amber, and Squeezed Lemonade.  First I transferred some of the colors on to a panel of White CS.  I added some splatters of the Fired Brick with a GKD Stamp from Tiny Textures-have more control of splatters with the stamp.  I then transferred more color to a White CS and cut it with Memory Box die Pippi Butterfly.  I kept the pieces intact by adding Stick It paper to the back and inked the edges with red. I wanted the pattern of the paper towel to show so kept pieces together. Assembled the card with a GKD Faded Brick CS, the white panel and the Butterfly.  I stamped the Papers and Such sentiment with Fired Brick ink. 

My photo shows another die cut butterfly that I will use on another card. Stay tuned!

Flowers from the Garden

Welcome to my studio!  I am playing again with this month's Twofer Card Challenge-we are to create 2 different designs for 2 different occasions using the same stamp, stencils, and/or dies. The theme for this challenge is Garden.  For this two some, I am using Flower Dies from Spellbinders Shapeabilities Flower Bundle on both cards.  

My first card features a Garden of Flowers die cut and embossed with 3 different size dies cut from GKD Pink CS.  Arranged them with stems cut from another die in the flower bundle. Added some centers using some leftover shapes in my stash that were punched from Yellow CS.  GKD Sentiment was stamped in SU Glorious Green ink. All CS from stash.

The second card is a Thank You card featuring the same Spellbinders 3 Flower Dies cut from Small Check pattern paper from Graphic 45 Secret Garden paper pad.  I teamed these flowers with the stems cut with  Memory Box die Splendid Clarkia from Green CS and more leftover punched centers.  I assembled the card with Grass Green Card Base, mat of ivory CS, the flowers and stems, Cheery Lynn die cut Thank  You, and a die cut Butterfly( another leftover from stash). 

I enjoy  flowers from my garden every summer.

Butterfly with Stencil

Hello!    I used My Favorite Things Radiating Rays stencil with Memento Summer Sky ink and DOI Tumbled Glass to create a panel that I trimmed with a square die and cut the center out with a circle die.  I attached that using foam pad to Shimmery Yellow Card Base and added a fussy cut butterfly that was in my stash of leftovers.  (Stamped the butterfly with Black Ink and colored with Copics. ) Finished with a GKD sentiment. 

When I showed this to my DH, he thought it needed more so I added a frame of Blue CS to the second version shown below.  I'll let you be the judge to which one you like.

Dreamy Butterfly

Welcome!  Today I have been water coloring with Distress Oxide Inks....so much fun as I never know what will turn out. I began by stamping a butterfly from Gina K's Take Flight set with GKD Amalgam Black ink on watercolor paper and embossing with Clear EP.  I  then water colored the image with a water brush using DOI Fossilized Amber, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, and Peacock Feathers.  I created the water colored background  with Faded Jeans and Broken China using a brush and water. I like the effect that I achieved.  I added a mat of GKD Little Boy Blue CS and a card base of Ivory. Stamped the sentiment from the same GKD set with Black Versafine ink.

Butterfly with Stenciling

Hello!  For this card, I combined some stenciling, a die cut, and a stamp verse.   I used a GKD Stencil with DOI Faded Jeans on a white CS.  Stamped a sentiment from Paper and Such  with the same ink and then inked the edge with a Gold Metallic marker.  Attached to a white card base and added a Gold Metallic Butterfly die cut with a Cheery Lynn die.

My DH asked if I had enough white space to count as CAS?  Isn't he smart and crafty to know that?

When I compared the DT cards for white space, I think I have enough white space. We'll see, I guess.  Maybe I should have used another sentiment.

Vellum Butterfly

Hello!  Having fun today with an old Butterfly stamp set from Gina K Designs.  I stamped a Butterfly on clear Vellum with Memento Black Ink and Heat embossed with Black EP.  I colored it with Memento Markers on the back and fussy cut when it was totally dry.   I attached to a White CS with Vellum tape and added a strip of Shiny Orange Gloss CS that I embossed with CB Polka Dots EF. Finished by stamping sentiment and doing some doodling.

Inspiration from My Garden

 

Hello! Today I was inspired to create a card from a photo of a swallowtail butterfly that I recently captured in my garden.  I used a large Butterfly stamp from Repeat Impressions.  After stamping it on White CS with Tuxedo Black ink, I masked the image and stamped a flower from GKD A Year of Flower with Distress Ink Picked Raspberry.  I water colored the flower with the same ink and added a halo of Peeled Paint Distress Ink.  The butterfly was colored with Copics.  Added the sentiment from a Power Power stamp set using the black ink.  Finished with a card base of Black CS and a Bright Pink mat.

Flying By Again....

Hello! or should I say Hi!  Another card with Butterflies and Rainbows that was fun to create.  I used the negative space of a butterfly die and filled it with the colors of the rainbow using Distress Inks.  I added a sentiment from Papers and Such with Stormy Sky ink.   Finished the CAS card with a Blue card base. Used Butterfly die from Cheery Lynn.

Bicycle in the Garden

Welcome to my studio!  I was inspired by the photo inspiration from Just Add Ink challenge #415.  The bicycle reminded me of a bicycle stamp in my stash from Papers and Such and I just had to use it.  I stamped the image in versamark on Vellum and heat embossed with White EP.  I colored the bike with Pencils....the first time that I colored on vellum in this manner and I liked the results. I fussy cut the bike and adhered with vellum tape to the garden background that I created with paper from Our Daily Bread Shabby Rose collection and a garden fence that I cut from Glossy White CS with Our Daily Bread Gilded Gate dies.  Finished with die cut Happy Birthday and Butterfly from shimmery Pink CS cut with Cheery Lynn dies.   I was pleased with the finished results....love that you can see the fence through the spokes of the bike...and the flowers through the fence.
