Playing with a Stencil

Welcome to my studio. I created this card playing with a new stencil and stamps that I recently received from Gina K Designs.  I inked a panel of white cardstock with GKD Blue Raspberry and Fresh Asparagus inks using a lattice stencil from Bodacious Blooms stencils.  I stamped sentiments and a floral stamp from Pretty Posy set on the panel with Memento Black Ink and colored in the flowers with Copics and markers. Matted with a panel of Fresh Asparagus CS and then attached to a white card base.  I made this a slimline card instead of my usual A2 card.

Creating in Black and White + One

Hello! I created this card using Black and White plus a pop of Red.  Using the Snowflake Mandala Stencil from GKD, I inked a white cardstock with Black Amalgam ink and trimmed the panel to attach to a card base of GKD Red Velvet CS. I stamped and die cut the word Hello.  I layered the word with Red Velvet CS before attaching. 

Tip: To make a layer for the die cut word, I traced the outline of the die on CS and fussy cut.  This gives a perfect "shadow" layer for any die.

Christmas Ornaments

Welcome to my studio!  The 2 cards that I have posted today were inspired by a Jennifer McGuire video show casing a GKD stamp set (now sold out) and using creative masking.  I decided to use a GKD Stencil Snowflake Mandala with masking and Distress Oxide inks for blending to create these Christmas cards. Circle dies were used to create the masking.  I used a sentiment from GKD Peace and Joy set heat embossed with Gold EP on both cards. The top card was made with DOI Salty Ocean and Faded Jean with GKD Blue Raspberry CS for the base. The bow stamp from GKD  Joyful Holiday was heat embossed with Gold EP.  

The second card was inked with DOI Candied Apple, Fired Brick, and Worn Lipstick and has a card base of GKD Faded Brick CS. The ornament hook and string from GKD Merry and Bright set was heat embossed with Gold EP and I added a Gold Twine bow.

For both cards, I embellished the ornaments with touches of Glimmering Gold Foil using  a Deco Foil Adhesive pen and laminator.  These cards were hard to photograph to capture the foil but hope you can see the results.

Stencil and Leaves

Hello! It's beginning to feel like fall and I love to make fall cards with beautiful autumn colors.  I was playing with a GKD Stencil Rounded Swirl when I designed this card. I used Distress Oxide Inks Fossilized Amber, Wild Honey, and Spiced Marmalade with the stencil on white cardstock blending the colors from light to dark and used masking to create a stripe. I stamped leaves from GKD A Year of Leaves set with the same inks and water colored with a water brush. I stamped one leaf and fussy cut it and attached with foam tape for dimension. The sentiment is from GKD Skeleton Leaves. I added some dew drops in  different colors that blended with colors of the swirls.  I have had these dew drops for years and never seem to deplete the supply. Before attaching the base card of GKD Kissed Autumn card stock, I added an orange satin ribbon ......the card just called for that finishing touch.

Stencil with Foil

Welcome!   Not all cards are going to be perfect and my first attempts to use foil with a stencil were disappointing. But I continued to learn this technique and using  the right foil made a difference.  The card above was made for CAS Stencil Challenge - to use foil with stenciling.  I used a portion of the GKD stencil called Snowflake Mandala with Deco Foil Transfer Gel on white cardstock to add red foil. I added the foiled image to a Red Velvet card base and attached die cuts also foiled with the red foil.  The words were cut with Cheery Lynn dies.

I am sharing another card to show my first attempt at this technique.  I used a portion of a Tim Holtz stencil called Lace Layering with Deco Foil Transfer Gel and used a laminator to add red foil.  This was my first try at using my new Royal Sovereign laminator. (I finally broke down and bought one and am ready to learn how to enhance my cards with foil.) Trimmed the stenciled image and attached to Red Cardstock with a White card base.  I stamped Hello with a Gina K Design stamp and heat embossed with White EP.  Did this twice to make brighter. But the results were less than satisfactory. Part of the problem was that I used foil that was to be used with adhesives not a laminator.

This photo shows another attempt at using foil with a stencil but the foil did not transfer completely.

Smile in Red, White, and Blue

Welcome to my studio! I am still playing with the colors of our country's flag-Red, White, and Blue-to create cards for challenges.  For this one, I used  GKD Rounded Swirl Stencil with DOI Faded Jeans and Candied Apple on a panel of white cardstock.  I stamped a sentiment twice from GKD You Make Me Smile set with the same inks.  Added a couple of narrow white paper strips to contain the sentiments. Finished with a texture blue card base from my stash of cardstock.

Birthday Roses

Welcome!  I have been playing with a stencil, a die, stamps,  Ombre colors, and water coloring to create this birthday card.  I made the Ombre background by inking DOI Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio with Gina K Stencil Rounded Swirl on white CS.  I stamped the Rose stamp from GKD Tropical Blooms with GKD Amalgam Black ink and water colored the image with a water brush using the same green inks and Picked Raspberry DOI. Used GKD die to cut the rose and attached using foam to pop up the image.  Stamped the GKD sentiment with the pink ink. Finished with a green card base.

Butterfly with Stenciling

Hello!  For this card, I combined some stenciling, a die cut, and a stamp verse.   I used a GKD Stencil with DOI Faded Jeans on a white CS.  Stamped a sentiment from Paper and Such  with the same ink and then inked the edge with a Gold Metallic marker.  Attached to a white card base and added a Gold Metallic Butterfly die cut with a Cheery Lynn die. 

Challenges:

My DH asked if I had enough white space to count as CAS?  Isn't he smart and crafty to know that?

When I compared the DT cards for white space, I think I have enough white space. We'll see, I guess.  Maybe I should have used another sentiment.

Blue Hello

Hello! Playing with a new stencil and an Ombre design for a couple of challenges.  Used Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink with a GKD art stencil Rounded Swirls on White CS to create a light to dark Ombre  background for this card.  Embossed the panel with Divine Swirls EF and attached to a base of GKD Blue Raspberry CS.  Finished with sentiment of Hello, created with Repeat Impressions stamp by stamping on the blue CS with Hero Arts white ink and embossing with White EP.  Fussy Cut the word and popped up with foam tape.
Challenges:
Crazy 4 Challenges: C4C 440 Ombre.
Cards In Envy: Feeling Blue and Distressed.  Lot of Blue and Distress Ink.
