The Library Challenge

Welcome!  One of the most fun challenges that I played with lately is The Library Challenge.

Each challenge will feature a book and you can be inspired by the cover, the title, or the story. The recent Challenge #17 is the book The Woman in the Window.   I was inspired by the colors and brick on the cover of the paperback edition as well as the title using a woman sitting in a window on my card.  As I have read this book and enjoyed the suspense of this thriller,  I did not want to reveal any of the story of the book in case you have not read the book.   But I did include a couple of elements that play in the book, specifically a camera-with a "zoom" lens and a glass of merlot, both shown on the window ledge.  On my card, I featured a woman reading a book in the window but in the book she would more likely be watching an old movie or "spying" out the window.  Read the book and find all about the "woman in the window".  It's a really good suspense story. 

Supplies used: Clear Stamps from Little Claire Designs (Room With a View and Birdcage sets), Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Copics, Clear Vellum(for the window and handmade wine glass), White CS, Yellow CS, Distress Oxide ink Faded Blue, Camera Metal Brad, Sentiment from Jane's Doodles, Scor-pal for scoring brick wall.  The window was stamped on Clear Vellum with black ink and heat embossed with Clear EP.  I layered it between the Brick Wall and the layer with the image. 

My photos show the card with the window closed for the envelope and also opened.

Playing Around

 

Hello!   This card was not made for any special purpose.  I had been looking for a Window Die to buy and finally realized why not just use the Cameo to cut a window.  That way I can adjust the size, style, and design to fit whatever I need.  There were several files to choose from and I chose one that has 4 different designs.  I cut several frames from one piece of paper so now I have a stash on hand.
I made this card (just playing around) using 2 embossing folders-Gingham EF for the wall to place my cut window and Birds and Swirls EF for the window scene.  Simply colored the birds and branches with marker after embossing blue CS. Finished by stamping sentiment (Repeat Impressions stamp) on a piece of the white CS left over from cutting the windows.

View from the Window on a Snowy Day

Hello!  Looking from the inside out is the theme of this card. My card today is a bit unusual but I had to go a bit out of the box to meet the Challenge at Joan's Gardens this week. Her challenge is to use any colors,  window, trees, and a product from Joan's Gardens. The tricky part was that I have no window dies so I had to make up my window with rectangle dies and to make it look more like a window, I fashioned curtains and a valence with pleated and embossed paper. I wall-papered the room with a floral print paper and used a wood grain print for the floor.  Since the window looks to an outside view I created a winter scene that I stamped in black ink and colored with pencils.  I hope the trees in the scene are enough to cover the required tree element. The Stampendous stamp "Snowy Postcard" is from Joan's Gardens that I recently won. Only a portion of the stamp is shown through the window. My card turned out a bit on the clean and simple style. Birthday Card in Black

 Hello! If you have been looking for me,  I have been outside working in the gardens this week.  That has left little time for card making.
But before I get my hands in the dirt today, I made a quick card for some challenges some of which close very soon. I made this a window card with a frame using Spellbinders dies. I stamped sentiments on the front and a flower on the inside with a tag using only black ink. Finished with some sprinkles on the corners of the frame.

Another Window Card

This is my 2nd card for Joan's Gardens Challenge to make a window card.

Inside Card



I used the Spellbinder Blossom Dies for cutting out the window in the front of the red card base.  I then cut the window in the gold mat with a smaller die, embossed the side with Cuttlebug EF Herringbone, stamped the sentiment with Versamark and Red EP,  and attached that to the front. I made the ornament with a GKD Stamp that I also stamped with Versamark and used Gold EP. This was stamped on a scrap of gold wrapping paper that I also embossed with CB Swiss Dots. Punched a hole at top and added fuzzy yarn. Added some red gemstones for sparkle. Attached the fuzzy chenille yarn to the front on the side with a metal brad. Finished inside with a gold embossed sentiment from Creative Clear Stamps.

Window Card for Joan

At Joan's Gardens this week,  Joan challenged us:

1. Create a Window card (Create an opening on the front of the card to see the image stamped inside.)

2. Use Christmas Ornament - or something similar.
3. Something Gold...Gold CS and gold on bow
4. Something fuzzy....bow of velvet ribbon edged with gold
I created my opening in the window card with Spellbinders Blossom dies and cut the ornament from gold CS using a Cuttlebug die.  First cut the opening on the front of red card base and outlined opening with Pilot Gold Marker pen. Cut Gold CS for front of card, embossed with Cuttlebug EF Divine Swirls,  and cut opening with a larger Blossom die than the first. After cutting the ornament, I stamped sentiment with versamark and embossed with red EP. Added ribbon for "hanging" and attached with dimensionals. I think it took longer to get the bow on the front made to my satisfaction than the time for the whole card.

I have not made many window cards but liked the way this came out. I have another one for Joan that I will be posting later. Started that one but did not like how it was looking but I did go back and finished after some changes. Stay tune for the results.
