Elmer Says Happy Birthday

It's been awhile since I played with The Library Challenge so I just had to make a card for Challenge 53 Elmer when I saw The Patchwork Elephant. I remembered I had a template for an elephant that I could use.  I traced the template on a 6"x 6" square of Scor-tape that I have hoarded for a long time. I simply trimmed the elephant and attached roughly cut half inch squares of various colored cardstock to the adhesive on one side of the Scor-tape trimming the edges as I went.  If I had it to do over I'd use larger squares and cut perfect squares-easier to line up.  Added a pink ear, a toothpick tusk, and a googly eye to the elephant.  I simply peeled the backside exposing the adhesive and attached to a textured card base.  Sorry, the square textured finish does not show in the photo but it looks great.  I heat embossed the Gina K Design sentiment using Black ink and Clear EP.  The template was from a Paper Crafts Magazine with Birthday Free Projects that I have had for years.  This was a fun card but it took some time to make.
After looking at the photo, I thought another color would be better for the base but that elephant is really stuck tight.
Challenges:
The Library Challenge: #53 Elmer.  Used all the colors and a patchwork design from the cover.
Always Fun Challenges: #150 Animals
Male Room: #130 Use Embossing. The sentiment is heat embossed.

I am sharing another card that I made with this template in 2013 which was a shaped birthday card:

Playing with Bokeh

Hello!  I tried something new today in the studio.  I used the Bokeh technique in making this card.  That is giving a visual look of out of focus areas as in a photograph. I have seen many cards and tutorials with this technique and thought I should give it a try.  I was inspired to so by the January challenge at CAS Mix It Up Card challenge which is the Bokeh Technique + Stamping + our choice.  I started with a blank panel of white cardstock and sponged it with 3 DOI Peacock Feathers, Broken China, and Faded Jeans. Using a template that I made with circle dies and a piece of thin acrylic, I sponged on various circles with Hero Arts White ink. This is one of those techniques when you are not sure when to stop or add more.  I stopped when my instinct told I had enough ink and circles.  With my background completed, I trimmed it to the size needed and layered on card base and cardstock layer of Turquoise and Lavender. But first I double stamped a GKD sentiment from You Have My Heart set with Versamark and heat embossed with WOW Silver EP.  I edged the Bokeh layer with a Metallic Silver Pilot Marker before attaching to the card.  Finished with some silver sequins.
I am very pleased with my first try with Bokeh and hope to do another card using water coloring and Bokeh. Checkout more information about Bokeh at CAS Mix It Up Card Challenge.

Redo of Teacup Card

Hello!  The current challenge at Double D is Tea and/or Coffee.  I remembered a Teacup Card that I made years ago from a template that I still have.   I thought I would remake the shaped card but use a newer design.  I began with a Shimmery Pink CS for the base of the cup...the card folds at the top of the cup. I added some embossing to the lip and base of the cup.  On white CS, I stamped Power Poppy stamps from the Peony Muse set using a Peony and Branches.  Memento inks were used and I embossed the flower with Clear EP to give a porcelain look.(LBIRL)  The white layer was embossed with CB Kassie's Brocade EF.  This was trimmed using the template and attached to the cup.  With a string, I attached  a tea bag that was made with pink vellum over a tag stamped with a sentiment from Power Poppy.  A personalized  message will be written inside.

Join Me for a Pumpkin Latte

Hello! This project was made for the Scor-pal October Challenge #42 Treat Holders to use more than one score.  I used a simple template for a K-cup holder to make this coffee treat.  To make the holder, use one sheet of cardstock and trim to 8.25" by 10.25" and score and trim lines as shown in the diagram below.  Cut circles for the cups and oval on the handle. I am not sure of the source for this template but I found it in one of my files.  I scored using my Scor-pal and cut & trimmed necessary areas and folded the sections and adhered with double sided tape.  I decorated using stamps and dies from September Hero Arts kit and inserted a couple of Cappuccino Pumpkin Lattes.

Have a great day! I love reading your comments. Theresa

Happy New Year to All!

Happy New Year!

It is New Year's Eve and time to celebrate!  Wishing everyone a year of love, health, happiness, and prosperity along with tons of creativity to keep the mojo juices flowing.  Speaking of flowing, time to open the bubbly and pour a glass to toast in the year. Here's to 2011...may it be good to all of us.

I made my champagne bottle card with a template offered from Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog. Check it out here. I printed the template and cut it out in this shimmery green luminescent  CS (can see on open card) that I being saving for the right project.  I printed the label from a free digi by Tiffany Doodles and cut with Spellbinders Label 4 and edged with a Pilot gold marker.  I covered the top and neck of bottle with a scrap of gold wrapping paper left from Christmas package. Tied ribbon around the neck and added a bit of bling.  Finished off the inside of bottle with sentiment from GKD "Lovely Labels 1" by Nina and cut with same label die.

Let's Get Grilling with JUGS

At Just Us Girls, Maria's week's challenge is to make an apron card. A free template is available to use from Mirkwood Designs. Check out the template HERE.
I made my card as a birthday card but the card slipped in the photo so you do not see that completely. Using the free template I cut the apron from striped CS and used grommets to attach the apron strings made with cooking twine. Added some pockets cut from a unknown PP and printed the birthday card on the computer adding some graphics and text. Matted this with anther PP. And also printed the word COOK on the computer.
Template: Thanks to Mirkwood Designs
Paper: Making Memories Fresh Anthology Collection
           Ivory CS

Apron is just right for a barbeque. Time to heat up the grill!

Easter Basket for TMITA and JUGS

At There's Magic in the Air, Sue Welsh brought us this week's fun challenge to use the  image "Eggs-traordinary Find" and incorporate it with a paper or altered Easter Basket. Click here to see the image.

At Just Us Girls it was time for another Template Challenge! All you have to do to play along, is to use ANY template of your choice! I chose a rounded basket template I found on Mel Stampz.

I began by cutting out the basket using Mel's template from a patterned paper. I scored and folded the basket, punched holes at the corners and tied with yellow ribbon. I added sheer ribbon to the curved edges on top. I cut the handle from striped paper and punched with a scallop border. I lined the underneath part of handle with same striped paper.

I printed the bunny digital image and cut with a circle nestie. I colored the image and also paper pieced (scraps from basket) the egg to which I added a ribbon and bow. Matted the image on a pink round mat and then a scalloped yellow mat both cut with nesties. Attached the circles to the front of basket with dimensionals. Just for fun I attached buttons to the bottom for legs.
Finished with some grass and candy inside.
Cardstock: DCWV Flower Shower Paper Pack
Gina K Lemondrop and Innocnt Pink
Ink:  SU Bordering Blue, Memento Cottage Ivy
White Stickles on Bunny
Nesties: Circles and Scalloped Circle
Ribbons and Buttons from Stash
Wishing you a Blessed and Happy Easter!
