Card with a Soft Flourish

I did not plan to do another post today but I got tired of ironing...so boring...that I decided to do a card for Sugar Creek Hollow challenge. This week we are to  use FABULOUS FLOURISHES on  vintage or shabby chic cards.  I quickly found this lovely vintage digital image of a flower that I had filed from Magic Moonlight Free Images and used it as my focus. I added some distress edging with distress inks to the image and stripe mat of MME pattern paper. Added some organza ribbon and bow with a pearl heart and a row of paper lace.  I attached modest pearl flourishes and more pearls to the card after adhering to the card base.
This was a quick card but I think it fills the challenge.

Scaredy Cat??

This week, Sugar Creek Hollow wants us to make a vintage or shabby chic card or other paper-crafted project featuring Vintage Animals.  Since I have been making Halloween and fall theme cards, I decided to use a digital image from Magic Moonlight of a Black Cat that is in my collection. I also added some cutout bats that I have on digi file from Plumrose Lane. After printing the image I distressed it and my background with some distress inks - Tea Dye and Wild  Honey. Placed the image on a mat of Black CS punched with Martha Stewart Drippy Goo Punch. My background is of yellow orange CS embossed with Cuttlebug EF Forest Branches and distressed with inks. Used a Purple Card base. Finished with Gold organza ribbon and bow. Thought this was a great scaredy cat in a pumpkin with the vintage script.

Circles of Time

At Sugar Creek Hollow this week, the challenge is to  make vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards with CIRCLES ...can be a circle shape or can be another shape that features circles or circles on a circle shape - you decide. I thought of some great vintage pocket watch digital images that I have and decided to feature one from Graphics Fairy on my card. I took my color inspiration from a pattern paper that has a vintage flavor with a design in browns, pink, and a limey green or what might be called chartreuse. I followed a sketch from Crazy 4 Challenges. The band of the pattern beneath the circles kind of got lost in the Card Base...BIRL. Hope you can make out the layout of the card.

More and Older is Better

The highlights of this card are a beautiful Graphic Print from The House on the Bay, an "antique" (?) button  engraved with flowers, and an "antique-looking" crushed velvet ribbon.  I used these items plus several more to create a card for this week at Sugar Creek Hollow for their theme More Is Better.
Our vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards should have lots of embellishments! I followed a sketch from Card Patterns which I turned on the side for my design. I made the focus of the card the graphic - Rose with a Border which I distressed the edge and aged with Distress Ink. I placed this on an embossed dark green mat,  added border of pink pattern with pink crushed ribbon and green satin ribbon. This I placed on a card base of Distressed Pink CS. I finished with Pink Rhinestones in a design about the roses, added pearls, and the button with flower design and a rhinestone center. Added the word "Love" embossed in gold.

Vintage Card with My Designer Paper

It is a challenge for me to make Vintage cards but I think I am getting more comfortable doing them through the challenges at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week at Sugar Creek Hollow we are asked to Make our own Designer paper. Our vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards must feature at least one piece of designer paper that we have created.   For this card I started by making the DP with no plans for the final design....kind of a backward approach. I usually start by selecting my image to focus on.  Using a deep red CS from my stash, I stamped a flourish and flower from Layers of Color Art Stamps Set "Nature" several times with Versafine Onyx Black. When I was satisfied with my DP design, I went hunting for an image. I found this lovely portrait "Gibson Girl" in my collection of Digis from House Across the Bay that I found in freebies at Papercraft Star. I printed the image as is and added a bit of color with Distress Ink Aged Mahogany. I cut it out with Nestabilities Labels 4 and sponged the edge with the Distress Ink and added a black edge. Stamped sentiment from Flourishes "Sweet Love" and cut with same die set mentioned.
Assembled the card with Black CS Base, my own  Designer Paper as the mat wrapped with Black Satin Ribbon and my stamped image and sentiment. Finishing touches were a black pearl and rhinestone as her earring. ( You may have to enlarge to see that touch.).
I like the final results of my unplanned card.

Vintage Father's Day

Don't you love it when a card comes together so quickly and you love the results?  That's how I felt with this card for the challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow.  The challenge this week is to make vintage, shabby chic or primitive FATHER'S DAY cards.  I had a hard time deciding what to make but when I found some very old paper of Antique Maps by PSX Papers in my stash ..(very old paper, probably old enough to be considered vintage) ... I knew I had to use it. Then I remembered a couple of digital files that I saved from Graphics Fairy...a sailboat and a background paper with an "old" feel.  I printed the Boat, Digi Paper, and added some distress inks -Tea Dye and Antique Linen-and distressed edges to all the layers including the map that I cut with a Nesties circle die.  Assembled all elements on a card base of MFP's Tan CS with a sentiment, ribbon, brad, and bronze pin. The sentiment "For the Best Father in the World" was computer generated and cut with a Spellbinders label die. Thought this tied in well with the "worldliness" of my theme.

Sunday Fashion from Years Ago

 
The challenge this week at Sugar Creek Hollow is called VINTAGE FASHION. We are to make vintage, shabby chic or primitive cards featuring the fashions of times gone by.  Besides being vintage or shabby chic, the entry must show some sort of vintage fashion - clothing, hats, shoes, etc. in order to meet the challenge theme.
I chose to use a image by Create with TLC showing a lady of years ago in her Sunday dress.  I used colors from CR84FN color challenge.  I colored the lady in Copics and cut it out with Nesties oval that I edged with green and sponged with gray ink. I placed this on an embossed CS of Lavender.  I added ribbons of green and lavender. Added a veil of tulle to her hat that I colored with green ink. The sentiment is a stamp from Anna Griffin.

Simply Vintage

One more post today and I am done.  I just had to get this entry in for Sugar Creek Hollow's Challenge to create a vintage card featuring flowers.  I love making floral cards and I found the perfect image to use at Magic Moonlight Studio Free Images. I simply printed the image, trimmed and distressed the edges with a distressing tool and distress inks. I used Ivory CS for the base but I sponged it with distress inks and embossed it to give a vintage look. Added a mat of handmade paper that I purchased a long time ago and also distressed the edges. To finish the card I wrapped 2 organza ribbons around the mat with image and tied a bow. Finished with a hat pin to which I added beads and pearls. The great things about these printed images are that they are  inspiration for colors and designs and so quick to use. Love this card...hope you do too.

Steampunk - A New Genre For Me

At Sugar Creek Hollow, the challenge is to make a Steampunk card. First I had to read up on what is Steampunk....seems Steampunk is a genre which came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, etc according to Wikipedia. I also found more information from reading and viewing the Sugar Hollow Design Team's cards and blogs. The digital graphics that I used were found on Graphics Fairy and Steampunk Foundry, both great sources of digital images. I was a bit out of my comfort level but think I ended up with the Steampunk look.

I was trying to use some black twine laying on my work area when my husband suggested wrapping it around the cogwheels....what a great idea! Thanks, DH!  I liked the look of the man in goggles that I saw at Sugar Hollow and had to use it.

Vintage Vacation at the Beach

 Sugar Creek Hollow has a fun challenge for us this week. They want us to make a vintage, shabby chic or primitive card that depicts a VACATION AT THE BEACH.  This challenge is perfect for me this week since I am at the beach and I searched for shells on the beach to use on my vintage card.  I used a great graphic of a Bathing Beauty from Graphics Fairy that I found searching the web.  I printed the image using a sepia finish and then added some pink highlights using a Copics marker. I tore the edges of the image before attaching it to a mat from a BasicGrey paper pad. I then used a card base of textured blue CS. The shells were randomly placed on the sandy beach in the graphic.  I also colored the starfish and added some Glossy Accents which I hope show on the card.  I used a sentiment from Flourishes stamp set "Beach Life" stamped in Memento  Rose Bud ink ( I included an enlarged photo so that you can  read).  I also finished the inside with leftover scraps and another sentiment from the same set.
I love how this card turned out with the great vintage print.
