Staying Safe

Welcome to the studio! At least we can visit safely on the internet.  I have turned away from my quest to use up some of my paper stash to using up some of my fabric and sewing supplies.  I do have a lot of patterned cotton fabric thanks to my Mother who is a quilter.  She was always giving me leftover fabric and I stashed it away.  I also found that I have a supply of Shir-Tailor by Pellon, a non-woven fusible fabric that is good to line face masks. I also have a lot of bias tapes in assorted colors and a lot of grosgrain ribbon that make good ties for face masks.  So I have everything on hand to create masks. I studied several tutorials and patterns for making the masks and found the information and videos at The Fabric Patch http://www.fabricpatch.net/face-masks-for-covid-19-relief.htm was most helpful.  I made these with 2 layers of fabric and 2 layers of non-woven fabric(Pellon). I found using ties work best since it was hard to determine what length of elastic to use if the masks will be used by different sized people. 

I have photographed 5 of the masks that I sewed the last couple of days and will probably make more.  I do not have any novelty prints but have a variety of plaid, floral, and smaller prints.

This is not a typical creation for a challenge but I think it fits into the challenge at Love to Craft Challenge blog.  Their challenge for April is LICCB #45 Anything Goes. So I am sharing what I am working on.

Speedy the Fox and Friends Challenge

Rick Rack or Ric Rac or Rickrack??

Welcome to another challenge at Speedy the Fox and Friends.  We are challenging you to use Rick Rack on your projects.  However you spell it - ric rac, rick rack, or rickrack - we are talking about that flat-woven trim that has zigzagged its way for many years in all sizes and colors on to many garments and craft projects.  I am that sure all you card makers out there have a scrap or two or even a package of  rick rack in your stash.  That is where I found the red and gold Rick Rack that I used.

My card uses a new stamp set "Poinsettia Blooms" recently released by Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co.  I stamped the lamp with Versamark on White CS and embossed with Ranger Gold EP and colored with Copics. I cut the image out with a Spellbinders Die and sponged with Ranger DI Barn door before taking from the die.  Layered the image on to an embossed Gold Metallic CS mat (Cuttlebug EF Swiss Dots).   Stamped the sentiment ( from same stamp set as image) )  with Versamark and embossed with Ranger Red EP.  Added 2 rows of  Red with Gold Thread Rick Rack (From Jo-ann's)  and attached to a red card base.

Challenges:

Christmas Vintage with Fabric

I have missed doing several challenges lately but trying to make up for it this week. This card will cover some vintage, recycle, and fabric challenges currently running. I have tons of fabric from when I sewed and from some my Mother has given me.  I found this Christmas fabric leftover from some of her quilts that I had planned to use for projects but never did. So now I am going to recycle it and the bells that I found also for use in cards.

Challenges:
 Sugar Creek Hollow: Make a  vintage and/or shabby chic project using fabric but no ribbon or lace.
OOPs! I used a bit of ribbon...forgot.  But maybe they just meant that ribbon or lace would not count as fabric???

Wild and Wonderful Challenge

 Howdy! I am back again ! For this second noon challenge at Flourishes Wild and Wonderful Challenge FLLCSEPTRW2,  your card has to be a little on the rugged side. Use faux leather, “lasso”,  or some fun trim or give your creation a distressed look.  I hope my card is worthy of the wild west!  This was a difficult challenge for me as I do not have any wild or western stamps from Flourishes (ONLY Wonderful Ones).  And I did want to use Flourishes stamps so I can earn a second entry with this card.  After a long amount of deliberation and some trials, I came up with a distressed look and some rugged touches on my card.  Thank heaven I save everything and found a scrap of burlap and some jute "rope".

Stitching Challenges

Chelsea brings us this week's challenge at There's Magic In The Air. She want us to be super-uper creative this week and  incorporate some fabric and stitching into our projects.  I printed and colored this image "Beached Boat" from Paper Cupcakes using Copics.  I stitched the image to a scrap of denim with a frayed edge and then to a red CS mat. I wanted this to have a distress feel so my stitching is slightly irregular. This was attached to a card base of White CS.  I finished by stamping a sentiment from Mark's Finest Papers "Hello Sunshine" with SU Night of Navy ink.
In addition to the Paper Cupcakes Challenge, I am entering this at Secret Crafters Saturday Challenge that is to use stitching.

Lighthouse on Fabric

I have never stamped on fabric or used fabric other than ribbon on a card.  When I read this challenge from Basic Grey challenges-"This week we would love to see some Fabric used on your creations and at least one item of BasicGrey", I decided to give it a try. I had won this lighthouse stamp from Just for Fun Stamps and decided this was a good time to use it. I stamped on a piece of interfacing which I thought would be a good  fabric because it will fray easily on the edges and has an interesting texture as well. I used Memento Tuxedo black for the image and then colored with Copics. Had to use the colorless blender when I had too much ink and it spread beyond the lines. But overall it came out ok. When I finished the image and adjusted the size by trimming and fraying the edges, I used scor-tape to attach to the mat of Basic Grey striped paper from Oliver paper pack. Placed this on a base card that matched the sand color on the image. I printed the sentiment on the computer. Thought of adding some brads to the corners but decided I like the simple look as it is.
Other challenges that I had in mind as I made this card:
City Crafter Challenge:  Create a project with either the word "light" in it or has an image of something that gives light.
Cute Card Thursday:  Feature some material on your card somewhere.

The card looks better in real life ...not as dark as the photo shows and it has great texture.
