Staying Safe

Welcome to the studio! At least we can visit safely on the internet.  I have turned away from my quest to use up some of my paper stash to using up some of my fabric and sewing supplies.  I do have a lot of patterned cotton fabric thanks to my Mother who is a quilter.  She was always giving me leftover fabric and I stashed it away.  I also found that I have a supply of Shir-Tailor by Pellon, a non-woven fusible fabric that is good to line face masks. I also have a lot of bias tapes in assorted colors and a lot of grosgrain ribbon that make good ties for face masks.  So I have everything on hand to create masks. I studied several tutorials and patterns for making the masks and found the information and videos at The Fabric Patch http://www.fabricpatch.net/face-masks-for-covid-19-relief.htm was most helpful.  I made these with 2 layers of fabric and 2 layers of non-woven fabric(Pellon). I found using ties work best since it was hard to determine what length of elastic to use if the masks will be used by different sized people. 

I have photographed 5 of the masks that I sewed the last couple of days and will probably make more.  I do not have any novelty prints but have a variety of plaid, floral, and smaller prints.

This is not a typical creation for a challenge but I think it fits into the challenge at Love to Craft Challenge blog.  Their challenge for April is LICCB #45 Anything Goes. So I am sharing what I am working on.

Sewing Up a Card

Hello!  It's been a while since I played with The Library Challenge.  But when I saw the most recent challenge, I knew I must take the time to make a card since I have the perfect stamp to create a card for this book The Sewing Machine.  I dug out a old stamp set from a company no longer in business but I love the set.  I stamped the Sewing Machine with black ink on White CS (wish I had used ivory). I highlighted parts with Silver Metallic pen.  I trimmed the image with a rectangle die and distressed the edges with Distress Oxide inks. Placed the image on a Brown Mat also cut with a rectangle die.  For the background I found an old Patterned Paper from Graphic 45 that related to the story of the book which includes old notebooks and handwritten note that tell the tale of a family history, one stitch at a time from 1911 through 2016…The pattern paper shows scripted notes from the 1910's.  The sentiment from the same set was stamped with DOI.  Kind of ties in with the story line of the history that goes on and on through the years. 

I have not read this book but have checked out the Kindle book and plan to read soon.

An Old Sewing Machine

Welcome!  The challenge at Double D Looking Back in Time inspired this card using an old sewing machine stamp.  I used an old stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers called "I'm In Stitches".  I printed a digital paper "Old Paper" with dress forms from Graphics Fairy as my background.  I trimmed the paper and attached it to a mat of  Camel CS with Brown CS as the card base. Before placing the background,  I distressed the edges with a distressing tool and sponged with Distress ink, stamped the sentiment on the top  and the  tape measure across the bottom with Distress Ink Brushed Corduroy. Now for the sewing machine.  I stamped it on White CS with Versamark and embossed with Ranger EP. I colored the metal parts with Silver and Gold Jelli-ink pens and  then fancy cut the image...that was the hard part! Glad I have good scissors.  I attached the machine with foam dots to finish the card.

Personal note- I love this stamp set because it reminds me of a sewing machine  my Aunt Julia gave me several years ago.  I decided to pull it out of  its case and share a picture below.

One More Card Before the Year Ends

 I was having fun with some of my sewing theme stamps that have been neglected and came up with another entry for Less Is More Challenge theme Homespun.   For this I used some old Mark's Finest Papers stamps from the Sew What? set.  I even did the inside of the card and included a photo.

Other Supplies used: Memento Lady Bug and Toffee Crunch Inks,  Silver Jelli-ink Pen, Cuttlebug EF Herringbone, Red and White CS

Sewing Some Love

Hello!  The card that I have posted today could be for Valentine's or used to send some love at any time.  I created it with some challenges in mind.  The stamps are from Gina K's Nana's Needlework and Needlework Sentiments.  I heat embossed the sentiment with Versamark and Red EP and the Basket was done with Versamark and Chestnut EP.  I colored the Yarn with Memento Lady Bug Marker and the Basket with Brown Copics.  I embossed the white layer with Cuttlebug EF Gingham and placed on a card base of GKD Tan Leather CS.

For My Mother

 Welcome to my studio.  Today I am sharing the tri-fold shutter card that I made for my Mother.  She  has always been sewing or quilting since she was old enough to sew.  I made this special card for her featuring beautiful papers from Our Daily Bread Soulful Stitches Collection and used stamps from GKD Needlework Sentiments, MFP's Sew What?, and a Winnie and Walter set.  I added lace, gold metallic thread, buttons, charms, a needle, embossing with folders, die cuts, and a stamped fancy cut dressmaker form with flowers. Some of the inks used were Memento Potter's Clay and Distress Ink Antique Linen. Also used White Textured and Green CS's.

This is a design that I do not use often but I love making these tri-fold cards. I did enclose a message on the back but do not have a photo to show.

Altoid Tin to a Sewing Kit

Welcome to our Monday challenge at Friends of Speedy TV.  This week we are doing Altered Items. I have collected empty Altoids tins for a long time and have quite a few. But what to do with them??  I have thought about making sewing kits with some of the tins for gifts.  When I received the stamp set "I'm In Stitches" by Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co., I thought again about making sewing kits but did not.  But when I was thinking about this challenge to do an altered item, I decided it was time to give the sewing kit a try. And so here is my result.....an Altoid Tin becomes a Sewing Kit to be used for travel or in a purse. The tins with a smooth top work best for this but there are  tins that have an embossed top.  Using an adhesive back paper made this a very easy project.  First I made a pattern to cover the top of the tin. I cut the cover in white textured  paper backed with adhesive and stamped first the Scissors with Versamark Ink and Gold embossed.  Masking the scissors I stamped the Pin Cushion and embossed with Red EP.  I filled in the design with a Green Copic.  I did the sentiment also with Versamark and Red EP.  I sponged the entire cover with  Distress ink to darken the paper. I attached a gold brad to the scissors. Attached the cover to the top of a tin.  Added ribbon around the tin.  I also covered the bottom with a piece of the adhesive paper (not shown). I then added my sewing kit items to the inside.

Friends at Speedy TV Get Sketchy

 Welcome to Friends of Speedy TV challenge this week. We are asking you to make a card with the sketch shown below. I made  my card using Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co. stamp "I'm In Stitches" and a pattern paper background that I found in my stash.  I stamped the sewing machine on white CS with black ink and added some gold and silver. My original design did not include the pin cushion but I decided I needed a punch of color. I made several attempts to get the look that I wanted. Finally ended up stamping on white CS with versamark and used red embossing powder and then sponged with green distress ink.  Changed the card base to red  to make it all come together.
