Friends of Speedy TV Challenge

At Friends of Speedy TV this week, the challenge is to Try a New Technique.  I have been reading several tutorials about water coloring with Distress Inks and thought I'd give that a try with some stamps from  Mark's Finest Papers . The first card was not so good....see below....I inked the stamp directly with the distress inks, stamped on watercolor paper and then colored using a water brush.  Final Card on left-I then tried stamping the image with a black archival ink on the same paper and colored the image using a water brush (no water) with the same distress inks dipping the brush in a bit of water and then into the  inks smeared  on an acrylic block used as a palette. I love how you can blend shades of the same color by varying amount of water used.  I liked this image better and used it in my finished card. Tore the edges and added a bit of the distress ink. Placed this on the card base, added some gemstones and a sentiment also stamped in Distress Ink.

My first try with water coloring with Distress Ink shown below. Used some Picket Fence White and Barn Red highlights. Card is unfinished ....just photographed to show comparison.

Supplies for the card at top:
Stamps: Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co. "Daffodil Greetings" and sentiment from "Oopsy Daisy"
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Distress Inks Crushed Olive, Wild Honey, Tea Dye
Paper: Canson Watercolor paper, DCWV Chartreuse
Spellbinders Die
Dewdrops

For those who enter the challenge at Speedy TV this week, you have a chance to win "North American Woods" a MFP, a Heinrich Co stamp set shown below:

I took a little from several tutorials to come up with the technique that I used coloring with Distress Inks; therefore I can not give any one source the credit.

I think I will be doing more of this water coloring.

I enjoy all your comments. Thank you. Theresa

Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge

The Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge this week is to make a card and Heat Emboss the main image.  I decided to use the triple daisy image from MFP's "Oopsy Daisy" stamp set and stamped with Versamark directly on to a pattern paper and heat embossed with a Pearl Embossing Powder. I should have used a darker EP because it is hard to see the embossing in the photo but it looks really good in real life...trust me! I colored the image with Copics and attached to a lustrous CS mat and then to a brown card base. Keeping with the embossing, I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set with Versamark and embossed with Chestnut EP. I also stamped the butterfly image with Versamark from the new MFP "Scenic Selections" stamp set and embossed with Black EP, colored with markers and cut out and attached with pop  up dots. Also added brown organza ribbon to finish.
Please join in the challenge this week for a chance to win a MFP stamp Set. You have until 3PM on Friday June 1, 2012 to post your card. Remember, if you use MFP, a Heinrich Company stamps your name will be entered into the drawing twice.

Say It In Lime and Orange

This was a quick card to make...I found this scrap of Lime Green CS which I had left after cutting out an Olive Branches Die Cut and thought this would be great for my card for Annabelle's Challenge to "say it in Lime and Orange".   I placed my lime scrap on a card base of orange and stamped the Birthday Sentiment from Annabelle's Whimsy Flowers and added the square cut flower stamp from Annabelle's Squared Posies which I colored with Copics. Finished with a Dew drop in orange. Now I have to hurry to make the deadline.

Konnichiha

Konnichiha! (Hello in Japanese) I won this cute "Kimono Bear" from Meljens Designs and just could not wait to print and color her with Copics. She is printed on Copics X-Press Blending Paper which is the first time I have tried this paper. Very pleased with the results. I cut the image as an oval and matted with a Black CS Scallop Oval and placed on a mat of Pattern Paper that I have been hoarding in my stash but cannot identify the origin. I thought it had an Oriental feel especially with the flower design on the lower right corner. Finished the card with a Black Card Base, a black Pearl on the center of the flower, and some Red Rhinestones on the tips of the hair sticks.

FOSTV Challenge - Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to honor those who paid with their lives for our freedoms. On this day, people used to clean and decorate the graves of those who died in service to their country. Today this day has become a day of  summer celebration, picnics, fun and good times. We should never forget the real meaning and spirit of this holiday and be "Forever Thankful" to the men and women who have given their lives for our freedoms.
At Friends of Speedy TV this week, the challenge is to make a Memorial Day card. In my card for Memorial Day, the sentiment says it all with two words in my Clean and Simple design using only papers, twine,  and the sentiment.  I will send this card to Operation Write Home with my next bundle of cards for use as an Any Hero card.

Supplies:
Stamp: Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co. "Thankful Mini" Stamp Set

Ink: Memento Rhubarb Stalk, Distress Ink Antique Linen
Papers: MFP's Neutral Paper Pack and Pattern from Paper House Productions (Joann's)

Twine from Stash and Faux Stitching
For those who entered our challenge at  Speedy TV this week, you have a chance to win a MFP, a Heinrich Co stamp set shown on right:

This Memorial Day, try to take some time out from your summer fun and family events to remember the true meaning of the holiday. Try to visit a cemetery and place flowers on graves of our fallen heroes, visit a memorial,  fly the  U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon. In some way, be "Forever Thankful".
Have a Happy and Safe Holiday.

Friends of Speedy TV Challenge

This week at Friends of Speedy TV, the challenge is Paper Piercing.  I made this card using the newly released "Flamingos on Vacation", a fun and humorous stamp set.  I created the clouds for the background mat using a newly acquired cloud stencil and sponging with blue ink for the sky and sand for the beach. For my palm tree, I double stamped the fronds, cut one out and added with pop ups to give a 3D look. Can you see my coconuts--the brown brads peeking between the layered fronds? Piercing is all around the scallop layer and the square card base. This will make a good send off card for friends headed off to vacation. Bon voyage!

Supplies:
Stamps: "Flamingos on Vacation"  Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Co
Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa, Summer Sky, Desert Sand, Bamboo Leaves
Copics: E31,33, R81, Y13
Yellow Glaze Pen

Pink Are My Roses

At Flourishes Timeless Tuesday FTTC168, Silke challenged us to use a theme of PINK-A-LICIOUS…. the main color on your card/project is to be Pink. It can be anything from softer pink shades to bright pink colors. I chose to stamp the Rose from Flourishes "A Year in Flowers" ...I decided to do the image in a different look that I have used before. I stamped the image using Memento London Fog on Ivory CS which gives it a much softer look and colored with Copics and Pencils. I picked out colors from the Rose Print Designer Paper from Authenique, therefore I used gray tones in the leaves and different pink shades in each rose. Added some white to the rose petals as shown in the DP. I used a GKD Ivory CS Base layered with a mat of GKD Moonlight Fog CS. Added some pinks ribbons layered and then a pink bow. Attached the image cut with a circle die and matted with the Moonlight Fog. Finished with stamped sentiment from "Zinnia" in Memento Rose Bud Ink and cut with Labels 4 Die. Finished with pearls in the corners for a feminine touch.
Can use this as a Mother's Day card when I finished the inside with a verse for my Mother.

Other Challenges:
Papers and Such: This week it's time to make a May Flowers card . My pink roses are about to bloom therefore I chose roses as my May flowers.
Papercraft Star: Use a stamp
Charisma Cardz: Challenge is Pink and girlie...pearls and ribbon plus pink is girlie.
DYSU: Challenge is use a flower. Use stamped roses and flowers on DP.

Cherish Today and Every Day

Welcome! I am a bit late but wishing my Mother and all those Mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day.  Hoping it was a day to cherish.

I have made my card in this post using a photo inspiration and color challenge from Crafty Friends and also incorporating a sketch challenge from Card Patterns.  I was inspired by the flower in the photo to create a 3D flower of the same color using punches and dies. I used layers of the 5 colors  following the design of the sketch. Can you believe there was no coloring or copics used in the making of this project? I was going to die cut a butterfly but found the button and thought it was perfect to use.

Shades of purple

This was an experimental card....just having fun. I was trying to design a project with Cheery Lynn Dies in purple for the Cheery Lynn Designs  Monday Challenge Shades of Purple. I came up with a somewhat stain glass design or window design. Used an image of Crocus colored with purples behind the "Window".Added some butterflies and tried stamping a sentiment on one of the butterflies. Tip: After cutting the butterfly die, place some one sided tape underneath the space stamped so it will stay intact. You will not want the punched area to fall out or you will lose your words.
For  the large open butterfly of DP I cut the shape of the butterfly out of metallic CS and made wings.
The colors on this look more red in the photo than IRL shade of purple.

Supplies:
Stamps: Flourishes Crocus from "A Year in Flowers" and sentiment from "Taglines"
Copics for coloring
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black and Grape Jelly
Papers: Solid CS from Bazzill, Pattern from K&CO, DCWV Metallic Stack
Purple Gems for accents
Dies: Cheery Lynn Cathedral Lace Frame, Butterflies Small and Butterflies Small 2

I enjoy all your comments. Thank you. Theresa

Speedy the Fox and Friends Challenge-Use Chalk

The Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge 107 this week is to Use Chalk. I have not done much work using chalk but was very happy with the results using Glossy White Cardstock and applying chalk directly to the stamped image using a cotton swab. The chalk gave a pretty pastel look to the flowers ( a new stamp from Mark's Finest Papers  Oopsy Daisy Stamp Set) and does not smear or flake off from this type of paper.  I stamped the image again onto glossy paper using Memento black ink and cut out the image with an oval die.  I colored the stems using Copics. I then placed this image with a ribbon on double mats of a scallop oval and a classic oval.  I then fussy cut the chalked flowers out and applied this on top of the second image in the oval. Using a white card base, a pink mat and an embossed mat of green, I assembled the card. I stamped the sentiment with the same black ink and finished with a double loop bow.
Supplies:
Stamps: Oopsy Daisies Stamp Set from Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrich Co.
Ink: Memento TUxedo Black
Chalks: Decorating Chalks from Craf-T Products (Pink) and Oil Pastel Chalks Yellow for the centers)
Copics: G29, G21
Papers: Glossy White and White CS from stash, Pink and Green Bazzill Textured CS
Dies: Nesties Oval and Scallop Oval Dies
Punch: EK Success Corner Punch
EF: Cuttlebug Diamond Plate
Organza with Satin  Ribbon from Stash

Please join in the challenge this week for a chance to win a MFP stamp Set. You have until 3PM on Friday May 18,  2012 to post your card. Remember,  if you use MFP a Heinrich Company stamps your name will be entered into the drawing twice.

Flourishes Home Sweet Home Challenge

Home Sweet Home Challenge at Flourishes is to be inspired by something in your home – it could be the color scheme of a room, a painting, vase or floral arrangement. We are to  take a picture and show the inspiration piece in your post. Entries will be in the running for the entire May Release!

In my home, I love to frame photographs made by husband and exhibit them on our walls.  One such "Gallery" wall  shows garden photos all framed in black frames.
Photo below shows how the wall looks. This wall often changes and fluctuates with the season.  This gallery was my inspiration for my card. I used stamps from Flourishes "A Year in Flowers" series that I colored with Copics  and cut out with a nesties square die. Used both Ivory and White CS for stamping. I then matted the images on Black CS and attached to the square card base of white. I then used Banner stamp in "From the Heart" and sentiment from "Taglines" to complete the card.

And here I have  my third and final card for Flourishes Release week Challenges.

Our Gallery Wall

I enjoy all your comments. Thank you. Theresa.

One for the Older Boy

This is my second card for the Flourishes Release Challenge.  This challenge is all about the men in your life — no matter what the age! My boy is a bit older than some but I am not telling how old.  All I need to do is make a more masculine card for this challenge and I will be in the running to win the month's 3 release stamp sets! I used "Moments in Time" stamp set and stamped the hour glass with Memento Rich Cocoa and colored with Copics E00,30,31,33, and 35.  I stamped 2 sentiments from the same set and with the same ink. I cut these items with Spellbinders Label 1 dies. Did some sponging on the sentiment with Distress Ink Brushed Corduroy. Papers used were GKD Ivory and Soft Sand CS and Pattern from DCWV Safari Chic mat. Embossed the pattern mat with CB EF Forest Branches.  I added some glossy Accents to the hour glass. I think this will make a nice card for the "boy" in my life.

Two down, one to go.

I enjoy all your comments. Thank you. Theresa

Pretty in Purple

I am on a mission today ...to complete all three challenges at Flourishes by 5:00 for a  chance to win all three of  the stamp sets released this month. Of course I have waited til the last minute to make my cards so this is a mad rush to complete. But, I WANT to win their new sets.  To play in the “Pretty In Purple” challenge, all I need to do is use purple somewhere on a card. I used the Iris stamp from "A Year In Flowers Set 2". I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Copics. I used round mats cut with Nesties circle dies, a mat of Bazzill Textured Purple CS, a wide purple satin ribbon, and finished with a partial Sentiment from "Moments of Time" stamped in Memento Grape Jelly.
I think I got the purple covered in several ways.
Wish me luck.
One down , two to go.

This is my 1000th post on this blog.... Maybe that will bea lucky post!
I enjoy all your comments. Thank you. Theresa

Celebrate Summer

I enjoy making black and white cards and designing this vintage card  was so easy because I used a great vintage graphic from Graphics Fairy called Silhouette Chridren. After printing the image, I cut with an oval die and placed on a black frame cut with a Cheery Lynn die. This went a top an embossed white mat and then a black mat and white base. Finished with an organza ribbon and double loop bow and some black pearls. Thought the sentiment "Celebrate Summer" suited the image.

Allsorts Challenge: Challenge is Black and White
Crazy 4 Challenges: Do a card or project that has to do with gardening or the great outdoors.

Enjoy the Spring Day

I made this card from items laying on my desk this morning.  Just as I was finishing I felt a migraine coming but managed to finish the card  before it fully hit. Then off to nap for awhile to try and get rid of  it.  The digital  image I used is Meljens "Garden House" and is colored with Copics. Used a cloud background  and die cut grass given to by a friend. Printed the Meljen Cloud and used as thee  spot for my sentiment that I double stamped to give some depth. Keeping this short as I still feel effects of the migraine.
Challenges:
Meljens Design: #108 Anything Goes

Supplies:
Stamps:  Meljens Designs and Annabelle Sentiment

Copics and Markers
Ink: Memento Summer Sky, Dandelion, Tangelo
Papers: White and Textured Blue CS
Iky Antics Cloud Stencil

Having a migraine is no way to "Enjoy Life" but it is enjoyable when the symptoms are gone.

Put a Feather in Your Hat

I love the interesting challenges that Joan comes up with at Joan's Gardens. Her Weekly Challenge #17 is: Stamp a background, do a Vintage Card, use Olive and Tan Colors - and any accent color, and  use some kind of feathers (Joan said you might have to kill a chicken LOL). No chicken was killed or injured in the making of this card. I plucked a feather from an old red boa.  I think I met all the requirements.

Challenges:
Joan's Gardens: Challenge listed above
Oldie But A Goodie:  Challenge is to use die cuts and punches. Punched a hole for the feather and used scalloped oval dies. Both stamps are way older than 6 months. (Purchased at garage sales a couple years ago.)

Stamps: Anna Griffin Hat Stamp and Unknown Background Sonata Stamp

Inks: Distress Ink Antique Linen, Tea Dye, and Barn Red, Memento Bamboo Leaves
Copics: E30,53,55, R43,36, G20,99, YG67

Friends of Speedy TV Challenge

This is my card for FOSTV (Friends of Speedy TV) Week 19 Challenge - Make a Mother's Day Card. I thought this sentiment was perfect for my mother on a Mother's Day Card.  She is a young 92 and we work hard to keep up with her energy.  I have used an image from Springtime Flowers that I stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa on ivory cardstock...I like the softness that brown on ivory gives rather than using black ink on white cardstock. I colored the image with Copics and framed it with a die cut  ( I cut out the center of the cut die to make the frame).  I picked up the yellow from the center of flowers to use as my card base.  I finished with teardrop pearls in the corners.

Challenges to enter:
Paper Sundaes: Mother's Day
Paper Players: Mother's Day

Supplies:
Stamps: "
Spring Flowers Stamp Set" and "Special Lion Stamp Set"  Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrich Co.

Just Writing to Say I Love You....

This is one of those cards that just evolved. I think this one would be more Shabby Chic in style so I will enter it into Sugar Creek Hollow for their Mother's Day Challenge.  I began with Nana Vic's Digital image "Letter Writing".....I have many of her images but have not used many in a card.  I decided to use this when I saw that she is the sponsor this week of SCH and many of the DT made lovely cards with her images. After printing the image, I colored it with Copics, added some Distress Ink and cut with a circle die. I placed this on a distressed paper doily, a pattern paper mat and then on to the embossed card base. I sponged all the layers with Distress Inks as I assembled the card. Finished with a ribbon and bow and stuck in a "toothpick" pencil. (I learned how to make the pencil at my last stamp club meeting.Even colored in an eraser.)  I stamped the sentiments with Distress ink.
